When To Take the GMAT And Why Earlier Is Usually Better

0

By Zeke Lee

When is the GMAT?

There is no specific date (like there is for the SAT) that you must take the GMAT. So you have the liberty of scheduling a date and time for your testing at the nearest testing administration site.

Sounds good. Since I can choose when to take the exam, when is the best time to do so?

Perhaps the most beneficial time to take your GMAT is while you are still in school, or shortly afterwards. Remember, as you gain more real world experience, you lose the test-taking intuition that you used to have when you were in school. Taking an intensive test like the GMAT 5 years after your last rigorous exam can be quite challenging. Test-taking intricacies like operating in a time pressured environment, reading through answer choices, marking answers, and dealing with psychological issues are second nature to you when you are in school, but they become quite unfamiliar the longer you wait after college. You want to minimize this risk by taking the exam during the summer after graduation or the summer between your junior and senior year-this is the ideal time. Remember, the GMAT exam is valid for 5 years. If you have any intention of applying for business school sometime in the next 5 years, you should take it at your earliest convenience.

I am not in college anymore and I missed my chance to take the GMAT during this time. What do I do now?

Dont worry. You didnt miss the boat! A lotof people are in your shoes. You might not be familiar with the pressures of test taking so will need to pay extra attention to doing several practice exams mimicking exam-like conditions.

Mimicking exam-like conditions?

I mean instead of just going through questions on a practice exam bit by bit, you should schedule an entire morning or afternoon to take the exam with a timer. Especially with the Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) format of the exam, you should take these practice exams AS IF it were the real thing, at least several days before your real exam and preferably earlier.

What else should I take into account?

Since you have a busy life with work, extracurriculars, and socializing you want to get the GMAT out of the way ASAP before you start applying to business school. Why? Because later on youre going to be even more busy. Youll need to spend time on your job, but also any community groups you are a part of. Member of an organization that holds ambitious yearly events? Put in the effort and participate on the board in a leadership position. Trying to get a salary raise so you can mention it on your Bschool application? Do what you need to do to get there. And of course when you apply, youre going to need to budget time to research each school you apply to and get a sense of which ones are right for you. The list of things to do will get really hectic once you start applying, so take my advice. Take the GMAT now and get it out of the way before you start your business school apps.

Should I study first and then schedule the exam or schedule the exam and then study?

This is a personal preference. I would recommend you to schedule the exam a few months in advance when you intend to take it. Pay the $250 (yes, not cheap) it costs to take the exam so that you are invested into the exam-forcing you to study. Otherwise, if you casually study for the exam, you may never progress anywhere. - 30535

How To Survive An Affair Relationships That Last

0

After an affair, relationships can be hard to mend. The most essential part of any relationship is trust, and if youve cheated this bond is broken. The good news is that it is possible for a relationship to come back from cheating. The bad news is that you are going to have to work for it.
The first thing you need to do is swear off affair relationships. This is not a guide on how to cheat on your partner. If youre going to continue to cheat, then these guidelines will not be of much help to you. If youre willing to do the work, then these tips will help you repair your relationship.
The first thing you to need to do is admit your affair. Relationships are built on trust, and you cant have trust when youre lying to the other person. Not telling them is lying, a lie of omission. You need to tell them if they dont know, even though it is going to hurt.
Aside from general honesty, which is always a virtue, there is a practical side to this as well. If they dont know, they will find out, and its better that you take the bullet now rather than add to the pain when they do find out. If you try to keep it a secret, youre going to torpedo the relationship.
The next thing you need to do is to take the blame. You may feel that your partner did something to drive you to cheat. We also all have natural tendency to rationalize our behavior, to explain ourselves by coming up with an excuse. But the reality is that it is you that cheated, you that the affair. Relationships arent built by blaming your partner for your mistakes. Take the blame and move on.
Then you need to apologize. What youre looking for here is a complete admission and a sincere apology. You need to make sure that they know that you are truly repentant and regret what you did. Dont try to explain, just let them know how you feel.
Once youve done that, you need to give them some space. They are going to react, they are going to be hurt, and you cant push them into forgiving you any faster than they are going to already. Be there for them, but make sure that you dont push. They will be ready when they are ready, and if you try to push the issue then you are only going to succeed in pushing them further away.
After an affair, relationships are going to be different. The best thing you can do is to look at it as if you are starting the relationship all over again. Youre going to need to win back their trust, and this is a process that is going to take some time.
Fortunately, there are resources available to you to help you repair the relationship. It may be hard to admit to yourself that you need help, but using one of the systems can be the best relationship move youll ever make.

How To Stop A Divorce

0

Are you worried that you might not be able to find ways how to stop a divorce? If youre like most people, you would have tried everything you can think of in an effort to keep your relationship and stop it from falling apart.
Unfortunately, if youre also like most people, some of those things youve been doing to try and figure out how to stop a divorce are actually pushing your partner further away.
Here are some of the things most people do when they think they know how to stop a divorce.
1. Reassurance
Most people try hard to tell their partner that theyll change. They reassure them that if they stay in the relationship, things will be different. If youve been pleading with your partner to stay and reassuring him that everything will be better, then you could be pushing him further away.
2. Desperation
The majority of women trying to stop a divorce tell their partner over and over again I love you. They want him to see how much they care in the hope that it will make him stay. Trying to make your partner understand how much you love him and how much you need him is almost certain to make him want to pull away. After all, if you keep telling him that you cant live without him and hes the only one who can make you happy, then hes seeing that act of desperation as coming from a person who no longer has the confidence of the woman he originally fell in love with.
3. Talking
Many women spend endless hours talking, arguing, reasoning, analyzing and trying to fix a failing relationship. This tactic never works. In fact, it simply reinforces to a man that the relationship must be in serious trouble if it requires this much arguing and analyzing, so why keep trying? Nobody wants to be married to someone who constantly wants to focus on the negative aspects of everything thats going on.

While these things are almost normal instinctive behaviors for many women, they dont actually work when it comes to finding ways how to stop a divorce. What works is taking a step back and looking at your relationship a little differently. Its time to remove the emotion for just a moment and work on the dynamics of how you and your partner connected in the first place.
Think about when you first met. You would both have been happy and confident and cheerful. It was just fun to be in each others company. You would have been quite happy to accept your partner for who he was and you would have both made an effort to be sure to compromise on some things so you were both happy. Your partner would have fallen madly in love with you because you made him feel happy when you were together.
In order to find a real way how to stop a divorce, you need to figure out how to get back that happy, confident woman your husband fell in love with originally. This is not the same thing as getting a make-over. Your physical appearance isnt going to change a persons emotions. Youll need to stop focusing on the negative aspects of whats going on and work on your own inner happiness. When youre happy and confident on the inside, you suddenly become more like the person your partner loves and respects. Thats the woman he enjoys spending time with and that will also be the woman he will stop pulling away from.
When you can raise your confidence levels to that point and avoid all the usual triggers that push men away, you will have learned the easiest way of how to stop a divorce.

How To Save A Relationship Take Baby Steps

0

Well the good news is that if both of you are agreeable, the actual process of how to save a relationship is fairly easy.  If both of you still want to be life partners then you know that you love each other; but for some reason are finding it hard to communicate right now.
Life gets in the way of relationships. There is no two ways around that. Unfortunately we are all guilty of taking our loved ones for granted. We can spend time sorting out our kids problems, our friends problems perhaps even those of our work colleagues only to arrive home in a heap exhausted. We often assume that our partner can read our mind and know that we love and care about them.
But no matter how secure someone is, if they constantly feel or are made feel that they belong at the bottom of a very long list of priorities, they may leave. Feelings of resentment can grow over time and become rather like a snowball - small to start but soon takes on huge proportions.
The first step would be to arrange a night where both of you are free to concentrate 100% on your relationship. Get a sitter for the kids and head out somewhere for the evening. If you pick a public place, you are less likely to let your resentments boil over into an argument.
Agree that both of you want this relationship to work and reassure each other that you are committed to your partnership.  Arrange a series of date nights - these nights are for you two as a couple. You could each write out a list of what you would like to try in the relationship be it a night at the Opera or a particular technique in the bedroom. Then take turns trying to fulfil the other persons wishes.
In addition to the lists of treats you would like, you also should make a list of all that you enjoy about the relationship and then a list of the problem areas as you each see them.
Spending time together away from the hassles of real life will help you to rediscover the magic that brought you together. Sharing the above lists will help you to realise what you have and what you need to work on.
Now it could be easy for one party to become offended at what is written down. You both need to know that this exercise has been done solely to increase the satisfaction level in your relationship not to knock the other persons confidence or blame them for the problems. Try not to become defensive but listen to both the good parts and the bad. Try not to go to bed on an argument as unresolved conflict can cause more resentment. Showing love and appreciation goes a long way believe me.
By encouraging open communication and time for each other you should find that your commitment to each other becomes stronger and your friends will soon be asking you for advice on how to save a relationship.
